Building Strategies

Building Strategies

I have had a very interesting and busy month this Lent Season. Last Saturday, I attended the consecration of Stuart Bell at Aberystwyth University. Bishop Stuart will assist Bishop Andy Lines in the Anglican Convocation in Europe, particularly in Wales. Please pray for Stuart as he leads faithful Anglican ministry in Wales. The presiding minister was Archbishop Foley Beach of the ACNA (Anglican Church in North America) who is also the chairman of GAFCON (GAFCON stands for Global Anglican Future Conference).

Archbishop Foley Beach and I met briefly and exchanged ideas about further dialogue. On behalf of TICCN, I have written to him this week and I ask that you join me in prayer that the Lord’s will be done as we consider our future. I believe that Bible believing peoples should, if possible, join together in some practical way to strategically support each other and further our Kingdom commission.

A Former Criminal Consecrated as a Bishop!

A Former Criminal Consecrated as a Bishop!

The story of Bishop Michael Fleming’s transformation is an amazing and powerful testimony, showing the incredible work of God to restore life and heal the heartbreak of the past. Bishop Michael heard the call of God on his life and answered. He has a flourishing ministry, Church on the Street, which is helping those in real need, and seeing God transform many lives just like He did to his own.

A Missionary from Home

A Missionary from Home

12 years ago I had the pleasure and the honour of going on a short mission trip to San Francisco, then a few years after that another one to Tanzania. You see, being a missionary has been like a little spark inside of me ever since I was young so getting to go and be one was like a dream come true and after San Francisco that little spark became a small flame. At that time being a missionary to me meant travelling abroad to help people and to share God’s love and I wasn’t sure whether it was something God was calling me to, or whether it was just something I wanted to do.

Sammy the Sunflower SnailFast forward to 2020 and at this point I came to believe I wasn’t able to travel abroad, maybe my desire to go back to Africa wasn’t where God needed me to go or maybe my two missionary trips were my only missionary trips. Little did I know that God had kept that little flame flickering inside me and it was about to grow! We were in lockdown and I was asking God to help me use my time wisely. I felt prompted to write a children’s story, one that would be used to share the gospel, God’s love, and bring peace in the uncertain times we were living in. During one of my church’s midweek teachings on Facebook God showed me in my mind the book drawn out in a child-like drawing and I started writing what I could see. Before too long there it was “Sammy the Sunflower Snail”. I didn’t really know what I was going to do with the book or rather what God was going to do with it so I gave some out to children I knew and put the rest away.

Pass it on ugandaAbout a month later I got the urge to take up knitting, I only knew the basics so I started to practice using online videos and seemed to pick it up quickly. I came across a group on social media that collect knitted baby clothes for different charities so I made that my aim. I felt God had yet again answered my prayer and given me the gift of knitting to help people and gave me another great way of using lockdown time. After a few months when restrictions were being lifted some of the items I had knitted were getting sent out to different hospitals and charities. One charity started to reach out to charities in other countries and one of them was ‘Pass it on Trust Uganda’; before I knew it I had sent off my first box of baby clothes and knitted toys to Uganda. Around five weeks later I received photos of babies wearing clothes that I had made and it was then that I knew God was using me to make a difference in Africa! I couldn’t wait to send another box out and then I found out ‘Pass it on Trust Uganda’ were in need of children’s books.

I got the books I had put away and wrapped them up with knitted snails and off they went on their journey to Uganda. When I received photos of children with their books I thought my heart was going to explode with joy knowing not only were the children receiving clothes, toys and books but they received the gospel too! After sharing with Archbishop Steven it all clicked into place. I am a missionary in Africa without leaving home. That small flame inside of me has now become a roaring fire. Children across the world are wearing clothes I’ve knitted, reading books I’ve written, playing with toys I’ve made and it’s all been orchestrated by God! He made a way when I couldn’t see one.

God has continued to open doors since 2020, around 13 packages have been sent to charities with seven of those going to Uganda. One large box contained 135 sanitary products generously donated by members of Living Faith Church, friends, neighbours and family members. Other boxes have included clothing donations, toiletries, toys, bedding, nappies, masks, books and even Christmas cards handmade by children from our children’s ministry ‘Superkids’.

God chose me to be a missionary and a missionary I am. It may not be in the way I thought it would be, but that’s how I know it’s God’s way. God’s ideas go beyond our imagination. Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He WILL give you the desires of your heart”. We are to glorify God and enjoy Him so by surrendering our plans and dreams and living out His plans for our lives we get to glorify Him and enjoy Him in everything we do while receiving the wonderful gift of the desires of our heart.

Wigan bishop is presented with a cross blessed by the Pope

The Wigan host of an international religious gathering has received a very special gift.

Bishop Steven Evans of Orrell-based Living Faith Church was presented with a cross which had been blessed and given to Rev Christopher Hughes by His Holiness Pope Francis during a visit to Rome.

The church was hosting The International Christian Church Network’s (TICCN) conference with delegates from as far afield as the USA.

Among those present was Bishop Michael Fleming – otherwise known as Pastor Mick from the Church on the Street in Burnley whom Bishop Steven consecrated and bishop and whose book Blown Away is currently number one on Amazon.

Also in attendance were Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire Christine Kirk DL and the BBC’s special correspondent Ed Thomas who were both guest speakers.

Bishop Steven said he was deeply moved to have received the gift and that he would treasure it for the rest of his life.

Consecration of Bishop Michael Fleming

Consecration of Bishop Michael Fleming

What a day! Thanks be to God for all He has done and congratulations to my precious brother Bishop Michael Fleming on his consecration.

A consecration service like no other, with Mezzo-Soprano Samantha Oxborough, who opened the Commonwealth games, an award winning BBC Correspondent, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, and an abrupt interruption from a congregation member.

Our special guest speakers did a wonderful job, they clearly have a deep respect and love for Bishop Michael. Here we are with the BBC’s Special Correspondent Ed Thomas and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Christine Kirk DL

Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Christine Kirk DL was interrupted during the service. Two people came to the front of the church shouting and clearly in great need. Bishop Michael embraced them in love and led them to the side. I explained to the congregation that the church is a spiritual hospital so we ought not to be surprised if we encounter some patients. I went on to conclude that we’re all patients, with differing degrees of need. In many ways, the incident was a perfect illustration of what a church could and should be.

Sports For All Summit

Sports For All Summit

TICCN minister Reverend Christopher Hughes attended the Sports For All Summit in the Vatican. People from around the world came together to promote the importance of sports for human, educational and spiritual growth. During the summit a Declaration was presented with a commitment from attendees to give greater promotion in their own institutions and sports organizations to the social and inclusive dimensions of sports.

Reverend Christopher was a cosignatory on the declaration and among the gifts that were exchanged he presented Pope Francis with the popular golden TICCN crest badge (see photo).

Pope Francis showed great interest in the work of TICCN and presented Reverend Christopher with a cross which Reverend Christopher will present to Archbishop Steven during the TICCN conference on 12th October.

Since the birth of modern sports in the 19th century, the Church has willingly accompanied and promoted the practice of sports. Using the words of His Holiness Pius XII, sport is not “a vain agitation of limbs,” but an “activity with high educational and social potential, capable of promoting the person.”

TICCN continues to support the work carried out by Bishop Yousaf Nadeem in Pakistan. Over the years this work has provided food aid, medical supplies, and other essentials to poor communities in Pakistan. This support has been especially important in recent years during the COVID-19 pandemic and now with the extensive floods Pakistan has experienced.

Healed from Multiple Sclerosis

Healed from Multiple Sclerosis

Church of England minister Reverend Chris Low and her husband John visited Living Faith Church to share from her new book ‘Shattering Glass Ceilings.’

She has a tremendous testimony of healing from Multiple Sclerosis and until recently was the National director of the OSL (Order of St Luke). The OSL is a healing order focused on bringing the essential healing ministry of Jesus into churches.

The Reverend Christine “Chris” Low has spoken on many occasions about the testimony of her healing from multiple sclerosis and has frequently been asked to put it in writing. Now she sets out to tell her story with the hope of encouraging others to step out in faith and trust to God’s enabling to fulfill their God-given potential.

Shattering Glass Ceilings presents a story of the frustrations and restrictions of gender-shaped glass ceilings and how Chris saw those ceilings come crashing down one by one. By God’s grace, she was healed of multiple sclerosis and enabled to follow his call to ordination. The road was far from easy, but through God’s Holy Spirit and the support of many good people, it became possible. Along the way she learned many lessons—most of all, coming to trust to God’s empowering and to refuse to allow the prejudices of others to determine who she was and what she could become. Inspirational and biblically based, this personal narrative tells one woman’s story of healing and empowerment as God’s grace and hand in her life made possible many great things.
