The International Christian Church Network originally emphasized Charismatic in its name. This was because of the Greek word Charis, which is the English transliteration of the Greek word for grace, and Mata, which is the Greek word meaning gifts. Charismatic therefore means ‘grace gifts.’
Whilst there have been many issues within charismatic circles it is important not to characterize the whole movement by the worst features of some. The Biblical truth is that the Christian church must be charismatic, the vital work of the Holy Spirit in transforming lives must be evidenced in authentic Christianity.
Within the Bible, there are three lists of the ‘gifts of the Spirit.’ These three main passages are Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; and 1 Corinthians 12:28. In Romans 12 we read about: prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, and mercy. The list in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 includes: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues and the interpretation of tongues. In 1 Corinthians 12:28 we read about the gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
TICCN is keen to encourage people that the fruit of the Holy Spirit is in evidence in those who exercise the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We find the fruit listed in Galatians 5:22-23, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.’
